Heritage Day Recap: The Connection Challenge

SLMF booth with yellow balloons and purple tables at Heritage Day in Evans, Colorado.

We had our booth at Heritage Day in Evans, Colorado, and we loved meeting so many people in the community. We talked about what we hope to offer, and we asked what people think we need when it comes to mental health services in Colorado.

What we did at the booth

Guests filled out a mental health survey, picked up free goodies, and took part in our Connection Challenge.

The Connection Challenge

We asked people to call a friend or family member they hadn't talked to in a while, or someone they knew was going through a hard time. There was nothing more to it than that. They reached out and told that person they were thinking about them and that they loved them.

We got to listen to quite a few of those calls. It was heartwarming and tear-jerking to hear the real emotion and real love between people. It reminded us why we do this work.

The prizes

Everyone who took part in the challenge picked a prize or entered to win our grand prize: 4 tickets to the Denver Zoo, a $100 Scheels gift card, a $50 Texas Roadhouse gift card, and a $50 Top Golf gift card.

After the event, we drew a winner at random and delivered the prize to her at home.

What's next

We will be sharing some of our favorite connection calls soon, with the permission of the people on them. Keep an eye on our social media and this page.

If you want to help us bring more mental health support to Colorado, you can donate or volunteer.
